Fletcher Memorial Library at 257 Main Street has served as Hampton’s Library since 1919-1920 when Austin B. Fletcher purchased the building as a memorial to his mother, Harriet, and to his aunt, Eliza Durkee, who had wished to donate her smaller home for a library building. Although updated to serve as a modern library, the Italian style Victorian still retains much of its period charm. A circulating library with a fine selection of both popular and literary fiction and nonfiction, the library has a charming children’s room, a young adult section, large print books, and audio books and DVD’s.
